Rock hounding is easy. Just think of areas people would most likely not check, I am especially fond of looking in exposed river rock piles...

Hi all, I was hoping somebody knows of the apache tear collecting place that was mentioned in the beginning of this thread?

There are Apache tears north of Gerlach. Go north from Gerlach on Highway 34 for 45 Miles to Petrified Stump State Park (stop and take a look, no collecting). About 8 miles beyond the park search both sides of the road for about three miles.  It is about a two hour drive from Reno to get to Gerlach.  There are heat warning in this area because of temperature between 100 and 110 degrees F. This is a remote area with little traffic and not a place to have vehicle trouble.  I don't know of any areas to collect Apache tears closer to Reno.  In any case, I would wait for cooler weather before heading into the back country.

Thanks a bunch. I do know how dangerously hot and cold it gets out there so I will wait for the weather to be a little less harsh. I am looking forward to heading out there and seeing what we can find!! Thanks again!

Hello my name is Jason. My wife and I are new to the Reno area. Since we've been here my wife has really been missing digging crystals. We came from Washington state. If anyone can tell me where to go it would be much appreciated.
