Mike -

What a fantastic day! Thanks for all of your efforts in setting up this trip. Those of us that attended from ROGAMS enjoyed ourselves immensely.

Mike,

Great report and the rocks aren't bad either. You should get some wonderful cabs from that Marble. The colors are breath taking. The bit of rain you got was probably beneficial in that it kept the dust off the rocks so you didn't have to lick them so much to see what you had. Thanks for inviting us all along on your trip.

Mike that Nantahala marble is some of the prettiest marble on this planet. I treasure my sphere made from that gorgeous metamorphosed limestone infused with silica and subtle colors. Very cabochon-worthy material for the mad-Tarheel-cabber and his sidekick the willowy-wrought-wire-wrapper.

Great report on so many levels, Mike. The weather broke just right for us up here Saturday, also. My parents drove 6 hrs to see my son's soccer game at 12pm, and until 11:45 am, it had been a steady rain. Guess you have to have faith, be positive, and never trust the forecast this time of year in the mountains!

Great looking rock garden and an incredibly beautiful wire wrap in the last pic.

Hey Mike
Enjoyed slipping away to the Nantahala Quarry through your report and pics.Do ya think maybe if you have the Cookout next summer your front yard "mini" Nantahala will be open for collecting??

Hi Docia - Thanks! Yep, it's pretty rock alright and talk about LOTS of it. And, we could just about drive right up to it, so there were lots of low-riding vehicles heading out that day.

Hi Jeff - Always a pleasure to hang with you! You are most welcome, my friend.

Hi Joe - Thanks! You're right in all aspects - I've already cabbed some of the material and it is very nice. Maybe I'll share pictures when I take them. And, a little rain did save some spit.

Hi Jay - HA! We were lucky that recent blasting had uncovered some of the most vibrantly colored marble I've seen there in over a decade. There was also beautiful light purple, pink and white that I had not seen before.

Hi Andy - Since you drove all the way down from Pennsylvania, I'm certainly glad it worked out for you. Putting together a field trip isn't really a big deal and Chrissy and I certainly gained from the experience in many ways, but you're most welcome.

Hi Carl - Thanks. Here's hoping that you are able to make it down this way next summer.

Hi Mike - Thanks. Not really about faith; just the knowledge that nobody would melt if it rained and we'd rather be out rockhounding in the rain than sitting on a dry couch at home.

Hi Phil - Glad you enjoyed the report! Sure, you'd be welcome to take a couple pieces of the underlying limestone gravel . . . HA!

I always enjoy reading your reports mike, I't crazy to see all these beautyful things come from the earth. To see those mountain ridges ,,, wow . In Wis. born and living along lake Mich. we/I can only look at pictures and see that it's all real. Now that my wife and I are having kids, places like that are only in my dreams.

The people near Mtns are very lucky people. someday I tell myself, someday.

Big Bill - Thank you. Chrissy and I never tire of these mountains, not only for their rugged majesty, but no two days are ever the same. Pretty good for a Michigan boy and a Miami, Florida girl.

Hey Phil - he, he, he. Speaking of gravel - It's sorta sad to consider that the vast majority of the Nantahala marble is turned into gravel for paving and other construction activities - my book publisher's driveway is covered with the multi-colored rock.

Hi Mike,
Thanks for another fun report. That quarry looks like a very cool place to rockhound with nice material to collect. Good looking cabs and wire wrap too!

Hi Jim,

Thanks, man! I've just cut some more cabs from some purple, white and gray marble - this color combination was something I had not seen before at Nantahala.
