John:
I've been sitting here glued to my computer screen - being taken along on a macabre journey into the depths of the earth. You have a unique writing gift, my friend.
I'd place this story on an equal level of horror with Poe or Lovecraft.
Thanks for making this a delightful Halloween!

wait a minute; "BY John Cornish"???

When you posted these before you never let-on that YOU ARE thomas lera AND doug austin; That's a lot of pennames! Are you treating us to another trick???

Both versions are the best thriller I've ever read and even to a non caving hound it's all SO very familiar! I have hiked a mile long lava tube and turned off the lights to "feel it" but it was wonderful and not scary to me.Still having done just that made this story 'real' for me.
I'm glad the other year you posted the modern version with the pictures first, it sucked me in.I wanted to Believe it! wheeee. I LOVE this story!!!

Hi Everyone,

Thanks so much for writing. When I originally found these stories online, like you, I was glued to the monitor!!

They are not mine!!!!!

I'm glad you all enjoyed the thrill!

Have a great weekend!!!
